Michael Nay joined the FBC ministry team in November 2024 and became the Senior Pastor following the faithful 18 years of ministry leadership by Dr. Steve Traylor who retired in December 2024. With 30 years of ministry experience, Michael has served in a variety of roles, including pastoral leadership, non-profit children’s advocacy leadership and Christian education. Through the years he has been involved in planting three churches in Nevada and one in Virginia. Michael also has a heart for spiritual care and has been involved in the last two years guiding hospice patients and their families through times of suffering and grief.
He has had a few titles in his life, but Michael’s most prized are being husband to Dawn, dad to two children, and Baba to his grandchildren. After relocating to Staunton from Nevada in 2010, he and his family have come to love this walkable community. Michael holds a Master of Arts in Christian Spiritual Formation and Leadership from Friends University and a Bachelor of Science in Multimedia Design from Westwood College.
He desires is to live within the Kingdom by embodying the love of the Father, the grace and peace of Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit. He cares deeply for the Kingdom life and the gathering of the richly diverse, sometimes messy, and beautiful local church as She seeks to be formed into the image of Christ together.
Laura Lee has served FBC as the Ministry Assistant since 2009. She lives on a farm in Swoope with her husband, David. She has two grown sons.
She serves on the Operation Christmas Child year-round team. She is a member of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoys having two church families!
Jerrilyn MacDanel serves as the director of Music Ministries at First Baptist Church, Staunton, Virginia where she leads the congregation in worship each Sunday. In addition to her music duties, she collaborates with the pastor to provide meaning worship for the congregation she serves.
Jerrilyn is from Waynesboro, Virginia. She moved to Portsmouth, Virginia and graduated from Cradock High School. She received her B.S. in Music, from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Winchester, Virginia, Music Education Credentials from James Madison University, and a master’s degree in music education from James Madison University.
She is a retired public school music educator who taught for Harrisonburg City Schools for 33 years.
Jerrilyn has also been actively involved in music ministry, beginning in college and has served in the music ministry in several churches in the Shenandoah Valley. She also served as the artistic director of the Celebration Singers, an ecumenical community choir for twenty-three years.
She lives in Harrisonburg with her husband, Mark. They have three children and six grandchildren.
Becky Holmes is our church pianist and accompanist. She is a native of Hagerstown, Maryland. She is a graduate of Eastern Mennonite College where she studied piano with Dr. Stephen Sachs. Becky works at James Madison University in the Auditing and Management Services Department. She is married to Michael Holmes, and they have two daughters, Katy and Emily.
Thomas serves FBC as our Sexton, and has been with us since 2019. He lovingly takes care of our facility.
Steve has served as pastor of First Baptist since 2006 and retired in December 2024 What started as a trip to pick up a car Steve bought on eBay, developed into a God-story as the Lord led both Steve and Pam and First Baptist Church into a relationship of serving Him together.
Steve holds a Masters of Divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Beeson Divinity School. He did his undergraduate work at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.
In his off time Steve likes to spend time with his wife Pam, to hunt and fish and to tinker with anything electronic.
